Pre-ordering from a well-known online retailer had secured my UK release of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ for Nintendo Switch (or so I thought). On the very day of release (07/09/2017) I received an email stating that due to stock issues, my order was delayed and I’d receive another email confirming dispatch very soon.

A few days later I received my copy of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ but when I inserted the cartridge and proceeded to claim My Nintendo gold coins for the retail purchase (the first thing I usually do when buying a new game), I was presented with this screen instead:

Hang on…this is a UK copy of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ on a UK Switch console. This shouldn’t be happening. Where are my coins!

Does this look familiar? That’s because we posted advice not long ago, answering the question – Can I claim My Nintendo Gold Points with a Switch game I’ve imported? After experimenting with this, we found that not only was it not possible to claim gold coins this way but it presented us with the very same error message (above).

This now begs the question – Why did I still receive the above error message when buying a UK copy of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ for my UK Switch? Could this be a publisher stunt to try and shift US cartridges that didn’t sell (once the Day One Edition sold out) or was this the retailers themselves, trying desperately to meet pre-order demand?

Have you also received the above error message when trying to claim your My Nintendo Gold points with The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+? Hit the comments and let us know.
